Purple Loosestrife
Lythrum salicaria

Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria) is a showy ornamental that has become an aggresive invader of wetlands. It has been spreading westward since its arrival in eastern North America in the early 1800's, and has recently been documented in California. It is a hardy perennial that threatens wetlands and anything that grows within them. Once this weed becomes established, it will be difficult to erradicate. It is in the best interest of rice growers (among all people) to report any populations. For further information go to the following links:
