Parrot feather (Myriophyllum aquaticum) is another weed that is aggresively making its presence known in Californias' wetlands. It is indigenous to the Amazon River in South America, and is currently naturalizing worldwide particularly in warmer climates. It was probably introduced to North America in the late 1800's, and has found its way across the southern U.S. and along both coasts.
Parrot feather primarily reproduces asexually via plant fragments. It tends to colonize calmer waters, making it a serious threat to the physical and chemical makeup of California waterways.
