DUE TO COVID-19 precautions, the Butte County Library is not accepting donations at this time.
The Butte County Library welcomes donations of books and other materials that expand and enhance our collection or are suitable for resale.
All donations become the sole property of the Library. Books not added to the Library's collection may be sold by our Friends of the Library or distributed to charities. The Library can provide (on request) a blank receipt to the donor for the gift, but cannot appraise items for tax purposes.
What items can I donate?*
All branches are always glad to receive in good condition:
- Fiction and Nonfiction
- Hardcover and Paperback
- Cookbooks
- Childrens Books
- Audio Books
- Commercial DVDs and CDs in original packaging.
*Friends do not accept any books or other items which have been kept in garages, sheds, storage units and the like. This is due to mold, must, animal droppings and insects.
If you have any donation over three file boxes in size, please contact the branch to make arrangements.
When can I bring in my donations?
Donations are accepted at any of our libraries. Please bring donations during
library open hours in small boxes or bags that can easily be carried.
Where do my donated books go?
Your donation benefits the library and is greatly appreciated. Donations may be added to the collection. Any item not added to the library collection will be given to the Friends of Library for sale or distribution to a charitable organization. Books are sometimes distributed to:
- Juvenile Hall
- Butte County Jail
