The mission of the Butte County Library is to provide all individuals, regardless of age, ethnic background, educational or economic level, with free access to ideas, information, and technology.
Microfilm & Local Newspapers

Butte County Library has microfilm reader-printers at the Chico, Oroville and Paradise branch libraries. The Gridley branch has a microfilm reader but no print capability. Each branch also has local newspapers on microfilm available for the public to view. If you have your own microfiche or microfilm to view, you may bring it in to view on a library reader.

If you are unable to come into a branch and are looking for an obituary in a local newspaper, please fill out our Obituary Request form.

Google News Archives provides access to digitized newspapers, including the Chico Weekly Courant (Nov 18, 1865 - Oct 30, 1868).

The California Digital Newspaper Collection is a freely accessible repository of digitized California newspapers from 1846 to the Present.
