Unsecured property taxes are due by 5:00 p.m. on August 31 each year. Please be aware that even if you no longer own the property (business, boat, airplane, etc.) you may still be responsible for paying the bill.

According to the California Revenue and Taxation Code, if you owned the unsecured property on January 1, 2012, you are responsible for the 2012/13 unsecured property tax bill. The same rule applies to property that has been moved to another county and to business operations.

In order to close your file prior to the next fiscal year's billing, please contact the Butte County Assessor's Office to determine what documentation is required.
