11/20/08 - Have a Low Waste Thanksgiving Celebration
Thanksgiving Day is an American holiday that is loaded with tradition, so this year you can start a new tradition with your family by having an eco-friendly celebration. Just changing a few things will make a big difference in your home and in your environment, and everyone can be thankful. - Buy only what you need and choose products that come in recycled packaging.
- When you go shopping carry the reusable bags with you instead of using the paper and plastic bags at the store. Use cloth napkins instead of paper napkins because they can be washed and used over and over again.
- Recycle paper, plastic, glass and aluminum containers.
- You can use your Thanksgiving fruit and vegetable trimmings to start composting. The compost will enrich your garden next spring.
Happy Thanksgiving from the Butte County Public Works Department!
