Did you know that there is a Community Cleanup Grant Program?
It was established with the goal of helping to keep Butte County clean and to divert waste from the Neal Road Recycling & Waste Facility through reuse and recycling.
Why was the program established?
Butte County has a serious illegal dumping problem! We appreciate the efforts that community groups are willing to put into cleanup programs and are pleased to offer this grant program to assist with disposal costs. Because Butte County is committed to reducing the amount of material going to its landfill, we want to make sure that recycling is a part of every cleanup program.

How the program works:
Community groups wishing to participate in the grant program must meet the following criteria:
• The cleanup event must be a broad-based community effort such as a community or neighborhood cleanup program.
• The cleanup event must include public property and provide a general public benefit.
• Groups must make an effort to recycle as much of the collected material as is practicable.
• The Board of Supervisors has requested that your event organizers verify proof of residency for those community members who participate in your cleanup event to ensure that the event benefits those that it is intended for.
• For traffic control at large cleanup events, you are encouraged to contact the Sheriff's Team of Active Retired Seniors (S.T.A.R.S.) in your area. S.T.A.R.S. can be reached at (530) 538-7820.
Groups can request a maximum of $2,000 per event. Funds can be used to waive the cost of landfill fees at the Neal Road Recycling & Waste Facility or to assist with the cost of dumpster rental.
Community groups wishing to take advantage of this option must work with a disposal company representative to determine the size and number of dumpsters needed for the job in order to provide a cost estimate.

Although it is rare that it takes that long, there is a considerable amount of coordination that has to take place so we prefer that you give us ample time to complete this process. We want to make sure that your event is successful and we'll work hard to make that happen on our end.
