Love Your Library! Top 10 ways YOU can help Butte County Library 1. Join the Friends of the Library organization for your branch to help fund improvements to each community’s specific library needs, including book collections and children’s programs.
2. Donate your books, movies and CDs. The Library reviews donations to find useful items to add to its collection. For materials not needed in the library collection, the Friends of the Library hold regular book sales to raise funds that help the Library serve the community better.
3. Donate money to the Library’s endowments with the North Valley Community Foundation. Endowment gifts are invested to earn money for the long-term benefit and sustainability of the Library, including large equipment purchases or building expansion projects.
4. Make a memorial contribution to celebrate the memory of a loved one, to honor a friend or relative’s birthday, or remember another special occasion.
5. Volunteer (download an application) your time to help tutor an adult learning to read, assist library staff, shelve books, help with Friends book sales, tell stories to children and more. The Library also has volunteer opportunities for teens.
6. Create a legacy through planned giving in your will or estate plan. Through the North Valley Community Foundation, the Library can accept planned gifts of cash, stocks or bonds, real estate, insurance proceeds, or other personal property.
7. Attend an event. In addition to Friends of the Library book sales, the annual Trivia Bee for Literacy and the annual KZFR Bocce Ball Tournament allow participants to have fun while supporting the Library.
8. Partner with the Library on a project through your favorite community organization, including service clubs, PTA groups, Chambers of Commerce, or many others.
9. Word of mouth is one of the greatest promotional tools available. Let other people know how much you value the Library’s services – tell your friends, relatives, state and local elected officials… even the person next to you in line at the grocery store.
10. Enjoy the benefits of library use. Come in, get a free card, enjoy a film, share a story with your child or grandchild, get on the internet, check out a book on CD or a DVD, use an online database, read and discuss a book such as The Soloist (the county-wide Book In Common for 2009-10)… the true value of the Library is in its use, and all residents are encouraged to take advantage of the wide range of services available!
