How to Become a Foster Parent

In order to become a foster parent and establish a Butte County Foster Family Home, you must apply for a California State regulated license.  To do this, please attend our Foster Parent Orientation, held free of charge on the third Wednesday evening of every month:

Butte College Foster / Kinship Education Program

            Butte College Skyway Center

        2480 Notre Dame Blvd.

            Chico, CA  95928

            5:30pm-7:30 or 8:00pm

At Orientation, you will receive an application packet, detailed instructions on how to complete it and information about all of the steps in the licensing process.  We will discuss both the rewarding and challenging aspects of foster care service.

We will also discuss the training that you will need to become licensed.  If you wish to receive placement of new born children up to the age of 5 years old who require special care, "Options for Recovery" training is for you.  This program is profoundly valuable.

To care for children ages 5 years old and older, you will need to be trained in "The Nurturing Parent Program," a program with timeless application.   All training is held at the Foster / Kinship Education Program and is free.
