Code Enforcement OfficersOroville, CA – Butte County Code Enforcement, a division of the Department of Development Services, hired six Code Enforcement Officers to begin enforcement for Measure A. The measure was passed by voters in November 2014 and significantly changed the restrictions on cultivation of medical marijuana in the unincorporated area of Butte County.

The six new Code Enforcement Officers give the County more resources to strictly enforce the new restrictions. “The new Code Enforcement Officers are a welcome addition, says Chris Jellison, Code Enforcement Supervisor. Jellison states, “Given the changes approved by the passing of Measure A, especially the reduction in growing area and the fact that anyone can report a violation, we expect a large increase in reported violations.” The six new Code Enforcement Officers will complete a training program specific to the new restrictions on cultivation of medical marijuana. Each officer receives instruction on enforcement, field operations, hearing procedures, investigations, and complaints. Officers will begin enforcing the new restrictions once training is complete.

Butte County encourages residents to avoid violations and Learn the Facts about the new restrictions. To help spread the word that plants need to Stay in the Box (growing area), Code Enforcement Officers and Butte County Sheriff Deputies will walk door-to-door on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 in an unincorporated neighborhood to inform residents about the new restrictions. The door-to-door visits will be tweeted live from the @CountyofButte Twitter account. Follow along using #Stayinthebox
